Plan on attending the talk by Latoya Devezin, African American Community Archivist, at the Austin History Center entitled "Austin’s Black Westside: A Look at The Clarksville, Kincheoneville, and Wheatville Communities." Her talk will take place on December 5 in the Gordon White Building (GWB) 2.206, which is located at 210 West 24th Street on the UT campus. Starting time is 5:30PM.

Devezin's talk is the first in a series of events being hosted over the coming months by UT's John Warfield Center for African and African American Studies. All of the events will focus on Austin's freedmen communities with much attention given to Clarksville. In fact, Stephanie Lang, Program Curator, has been in the neighborhood nearly every weekend for the past month interviewing people who grew up in Clarksville or who have lived here a long time. She has usually been accompanied by a photographer who has shot photos for possible inclusion in the photo exhibit that will be part of the series.
