40 years ago, a diverse group of Clarksville activists established the CCDC in response to the displacement of many long time neighborhood residents by MoPac and to the first wave of gentrification to hit Clarksville. They began an an affordable housing program, which continues to exist, and vowed to preserve Clarksville’s unique history as one of the first freedman’s communities established West of the Mississippi.
To celebrate its founding and successes, the CCDC board of directors is throwing a party on Sunday, October 28th, from 3-5 on the grounds of the Haskell House, 1703 Waterston Avenue. BBQ from the Salt Lick will be served from 3:30-5; Leann Atherton and her band will perform; and of course, there will be a birthday cake.
The event is free so we hope that residents of Clarksville as well as CCDC supporters will drop by to help us celebrate.
